The notes app needs a version 2 essentially, due to how buggy the current one is. Erased objects re-appear, erasing is a slight mess (cant change the eraser on the pen to another eraser too). When it works, it works quite well. But when even when I exported a "test" note, some of the space in the image (possible erased areas?) was just... DARK gray, maybe black even. Instead of how it showed on the device.
Of course, preferably the issues would be fixed because of the great potential the notes app has. HOWEVER, another option that could possibly work is allowing other drawing/note apps to use the same software the built in notes use, for the pen. Aka, let the pen strokes be the only thing updating, instead of the entire screen when you write. It would easily make this tablet a 5, due to the customizing you could have for what program you want to use.
Or of course just... fix the notes app, or release a new one.
I feel like this company is sus. Almost everything on their website is sold out. I really wanted the color one, but it was sold out. The case was sold out for the one I bought. You can hardly find any info online as to why they are sold out. I had the origin and upgraded to the wave. The number one feature I use is the Notes app I do not like that. The menu is over the top of the note even though you can make it disappear I don’t want to go back-and-forth between the two settings I would like a way to put it back the way the origin works.
So far I ALMOST really love it! I've had it about a week.
What I Like - I like the size. I'm coming from a 6" e-reader, but this is still small enough that I'm happy. I think the handwriting feel and recognition in the native notetaking app and the native PDF reader is great! While it is a 7.8" screen, meaning PDF's will never feel totally natural, I find them easy enough to get around in. I wouldn't buy this if that was a significant use case, though. I've been reading in the native app, Libby and Kindle and have found them good, if a little slow. I do see the weird characters that other reviewers have noticed when I turn the page, but they clear quickly and it doesn't really bother me.
What I don't like - Third party apps are really bad. Really really bad! I tried to install G-Board, which I was using on my previous budget e-reader, and had to give up on it. I have not yet been able to log into some third party apps. Others are buggy and slow. It also seems to randomly disconnect the WiFi. More annoyingly, it occasionally stops showing Google Play Store. Libby, in particular, will say it won't open until I set up Google Play Store, which I've already done. I have to restart the tablet and then Play Store is back and everything is fine. While I like the native note taker, backing up my notes has not proven to be super easy if I want to have them available on other devices, even as PDF's.
On the whole I'm pretty happy with it, and I got it on sale for $100 after taxes. For that price I'm very happy with it and can live with the quirks. If I did heavy note taking, and especially if I was already deep with another third party not-taking app, this device would simply not work. For my uses (reading and light note taking) I'm happy.
The wave device is fine, but customer support for this product is poor. I have emailed twice trying to find out how to return/exchange the covers that I incorrectly purchased. The marketing for the protective covering was misleading on your site, and I ordered the wrong size. I would like to exchange with correct size, if possible, but I cannot get anyone to respond to my messages.
